Christmas is a time when family and friends to come together, often congregating in each other homes, enjoying festive food and drinks and exchanging gifts. But it is not such a jolly picture for those who do not have a home or have fallen on hard times and need assistance.
Brighton based waste management service, G&S Clearance, is committed to corporate social responsibility and is a firm believer in supporting the local community whenever possible. In the eyes of the company’s Director and Founder, Adrian Westwood, charity begins at home, here in Brighton.
The team feels strongly about the need to support charities that help the homeless, especially during the winter when warmth and safety are in short supply, which is why we support these specific Brighton based charities throughout the year.
Assistance is provided by donating good quality pre-loved furniture collected by the company’s professional waste management team when attending office clearance, house clearance or probate property clearance jobs, thereby allowing items to be given a second life and raise money for the charity.

Those who are old enough probably remember the song, but the reality is less fun for the people who desperately need help from this organisation. The YMCA endeavours to provide accommodation, support and advice, training and education and access to health and wellbeing initiatives such as the recently introduced Small Talks, Big Difference programme.

Every day, people all over the UK are rendered homeless for one reason or another, Shelter’s remit is to defend the right for a safe home and to provide assistance and advice, either in-person (locally), by phone, online or access to free legal advice and support in court cases for those who are facing eviction.

St. Mungo’s has been helping people who are sleeping on the streets and desperately need help for over 55 years, providing outreach, accommodation, legal, health, skills and employment advice and assistance. Over the last 12 months they have supported 28,000 people who are sleeping rough or at risk, this is only possible with the financial support of the general public.

The Brighton Housing Trust provides much needed support for rough sleepers, including specialist housing advice, accommodation for work, temporary emergency accommodation, support for mental health and wellbeing, legal advice, work and learning support and work placements. In the first quarter of 2024, BHT support 10,374 clients and tenants, and prevented 2,323 cases of homelessness.
